As SHC’s Vice President of Administration & Policy, Laura Chavez works with local governments and community partners to administer over 350 Permanent Supportive Housing vouchers. Laura also oversees SHC’s properties and asset management department and is an executive member on SHC’s affordable housing development team. Laura is the lead for all policy initiatives and directs compliance for the agency overall. SHC offers housing, services, and programming in three counties across the state of New Mexico.
Ms. Chavez has more than 20 years of experience in social services and has worked in housing for 15 years. Before coming to SHC, she owned her own business providing training on state and federal program policy as well as direct services. At the state’s housing finance agency, she oversaw the Affordable Housing Act, participated in LIHTC compliance reviews and worked directly with housing policy and legislative initiatives. Ms. Chavez has completed the NM Real Estate Commission Broker’s Exam/Licensure and The National Association of REALTORS Mandatory Ethics Training. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology & pre-law from UNM and she is currently pursuing a dual Master’s/Juris Doctor in Public Administration & Law. Laura grew up in New Mexico and is a proud UNM Alumni. She enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors and spending time with her son and family.
