Service Projects

Volunteer Collage

SHC has several opportunities for your organization, church, or school to become involved in the mission of SHC. Please consider one of the following projects:

  • Volunteer at one of our holiday dinners, summer barbecues, or other special events that benefit our tenants and improve their quality of life
  • Donate materials and/or labor for property improvement projects. This helps us maintain our properties at the highest level so that our tenants can take pride in their home
  • Assist at our monthly food distribution events at Downtown @700-2nd or Sunport Plaza
  • Donate items for and assemble Welcome Home baskets for our newly housed tenants

SHC advocates for and builds grass roots awareness for Housing First, the nationally recognized, evidence-based approach to reducing homelessness through its Community Outreach program. Our objective is to expand public awareness and support for Housing First as the dominant public policy strategy for ending homelessness. SHC will visit your business, organization, church, or school to discuss homelessness and the Housing First approach. Participants will learn that there are many reasons a family may be homeless and that being in stable, safe housing is a necessary first step to preventing the downward spiral that often happens when people become homeless. As a part of the learning experience, program participants have an opportunity to reflect upon and contribute to the mission of SHC-NM through service projects or fundraisers.
