Our Management Team

Steve RossExecutive DirectorSteve Ross – Mr. Ross is a fifth generation New Mexican who attended UNM on an athletic scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in political science. He holds a Master’s degree in management from Webster University. He spent fourteen years as a director for the YMCA and eighteen years in higher education with various colleges and universities, including UNM. Before joining SHC-NM he served as the director of advancement for St. Pius X High School. A certified fund raising executive (CFRE), he has successfully raised millions of dollars for the YMCA and higher education through capital campaigns, planned giving, and annual fund drives. He currently serves on the board for the Rotary Club of Albuquerque and the Good Shepherd Center.

john - croppedJohn Ames – Director of Community Housing – Mr. Ames initiated and manages the SHC-NM housing voucher programs including the program for Albuquerque Heading Home, the city-funded Housing First project. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Masters in Divinity. Mr. Ames has seventeen years’ experience in the management of non-profit organizations that serve persons with special needs, including projects with residential and scattered site housing opportunities for these high-risk populations. As a member of SHC-NM’s management team for the past eleven years, Mr. Ames oversees the six housing voucher programs operated/managed by SHC-NM with a total of nearly 400 vouchers and supervises the Service Coordinators that are located at each of our properties. Mr. Ames is also a certified Housing Quality Standards inspector and a Fair Housing Coordinator.

12227716_201941066805079_2880702519016786857_nLaurie FrappierDirector of Development & Operations – Ms. Frappier brings to SHC-NM a diverse experience in donor management, event planning, communications, and administration in the for-profit and non-profit sector. A lifelong advocate for health and wellness, she has served in various capacities in the non-profit sector, most notably as a program director for the Mountainside YMCA, event coordinator of the New Mexico Senior Olympics, and as executive assistant for Leadership New Mexico. Ms. Frappier holds a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the College of St. Scholastica and a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton. Ms. Frappier serves on the board of directors for Tennis 4 Futures, a nonprofit devoted to  providing no-cost year-round tennis activities for middle school students in the Albuquerque area.


Joscylyn Huffmaster – Director of Property and Asset Management – Ms. Huffmaster manages the SHC-NM properties and assets by working closely with all monitoring entities to ensure compliance with all housing programs. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology. Ms. Huffmaster has over twelve years of experience in property management over a variety of housing settings, including regional management of several HUD 811 properties, management of senior Public Housing, Tax Credit properties, senior apartments, military housing and student housing. Ms. Huffmaster also has 3 years of experience as a Fair Housing Specialist. She holds certifications for Public Housing Specialist, Fair Housing for Property and Community Managers, and Fair Housing Litigation.
